Director of Human Resources – ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis)
Location: Remote, supporting North Carolina and Virginia (Eastern Time Zone highly preferred)
Compensation: $75,000 – $100,000 (based on experience)
About Our Client
A client of PTS (Progressive Talent Solutions) is a growing ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) organization dedicated to delivering high-quality services to children and families across North Carolina and Virginia. With a strong focus on providing a supportive environment for staff and exceptional care for the families they serve, this client is seeking an experienced HR leader to build, scale, and oversee the human resources function while remaining hands-on with day-to-day responsibilities.
About the Opportunity
This is a senior-level leadership role for a candidate who thrives in dynamic, growth-stage organizations. The Director of HR will manage one junior HR team member, set the strategic direction for the function, and personally handle key operational tasks. This leader will serve as a trusted partner to the executive team, ensuring compliance, driving best practices, and cultivating a positive, people-first culture.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and execute HR strategies that align with company growth and mission
Oversee all aspects of HR operations including recruiting, employee relations, benefits, and compliance
Ensure compliance with federal and state labor laws, as well as industry-specific requirements (HIPAA, healthcare/ABA regulations)
Partner with leadership to design organizational structure, workforce planning, and performance management processes
Provide coaching and guidance to managers on employee relations, performance, and retention strategies
Build and maintain HR policies, employee handbook, and systems to support scalability
Lead culture and engagement initiatives to promote retention and employee satisfaction
Manage and mentor a junior HR team member
Qualifications
8+ years of progressive HR experience with at least 3 years in a leadership role
Demonstrated success building or scaling HR functions in a small to mid-sized organization
Hands-on experience in compliance, employee relations, and recruiting
Strong knowledge of federal and North Carolina employment laws
SPHR/PHR certification strongly preferred
Experience within the ABA, behavioral health, or healthcare field is highly preferred
Ability to balance strategic leadership with hands-on execution
Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
